The African Centre for Advocacy, ACA has commemorated this year’s Africa Water Week with a call for collective efforts in fighting the privatisation of water sources. This was during a sensitisation program that was carried out at Champions International Bilingual Secondary and High School, Nkolfoulou, Yaounde, this October

The Advocacy officer for African Center for Advocacy (ACA), Sandra Ndang, explained that taking this sensitization to students is important since they are tomorrow’s leaders. “We chose to celebrate in a secondary school because we think that the young minds need to be educated to understand how to cope amidst water crisis. They need to learn various methods of preserving and purifying water and also learn importance of fighting against water privatisation.”

The team of four volunteers from the Center for Advocacy donated ten adapted drinking buckets to students and staff of the school. They equally shared with the students educative stickers on how to preserve water, amongst others.

Africa Water Week was observed this year from October 9 to 13. Celebrated under the banner; “Holding hands to prevent Africa’s water from corporate capture”, ACA stressed the importance for the general public to put collective efforts in protecting water sources against privatisation from corporate bodies. To them, it is important for us to protect natural water sources for the generation yet to come.
