Volunteer Opportunity: Organisational Development Specialist ​

Location: Remote, with potential in-person meetings as necessary
Duration: Three months, possibly with an extended engagement depending on need. The volunteer is expected to commit approximately four to eight hours per week.  

About the African Centre for Policy and Advocacy (ACPA)

 Founded in 2015, the African Centre for Policy and Advocacy (ACPA), formerly known as the African Centre for Advocacy, is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation that promotes good governance, public health, education, and environmental sustainability throughout Africa. Based in Yaoundé, Cameroon, ACPA operates regionally, employing community-driven interventions, evidence-informed policy advocacy, and strategic communication to address key challenges related to health, education, governance, and climate change.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced professional to volunteer as an Organisational Development Specialist. This role is crucial for enhancing ACPA’s internal structures, governance, and operational efficiency, thereby ensuring long-term sustainability and impact. The volunteer will also play a vital role in shaping ACPA’s long-term strategic direction and developing sustainable funding strategies to maximise our impact across Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and enhance ACPA’s governance, leadership, and operational structures to improve organisational effectiveness and accountability.
  • Develop and refine organisational policies, processes, and strategic frameworks to align with best practices in nonprofit management.
  • Identify and implement sustainability strategies to ensure long-term impact and operational resilience.
  • Support partnership development and stakeholder engagement efforts, strengthening collaborations with key institutions, donors, and networks.
  • Optimise internal systems, team coordination, and performance evaluation mechanisms to improve efficiency and accountability.
  • Lead the development of a four-year strategic plan, aligning ACPA’s mission with emerging challenges in education, health, and climate sectors.
  • Design a comprehensive resource mobilisation strategy to diversify funding streams, including grants, partnerships, donor engagement, and innovative financing models.
  • Facilitate strategic planning sessions with ACPA’s leadership, staff, and key stakeholders to ensure a shared vision and direction.

Who We Are Looking For

We seek a highly experienced professional with a strong track record in organisational development, strategic planning, and fundraising for nonprofits. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Extensive experience in organisational development, governance, and capacity building for nonprofits.
  • Strong knowledge of strategy, operations, and resource management best practices.
  • Proven ability to develop policies, training materials, and strategic plans.
  • Strong knowledge of the African non-profit landscape and donor ecosystem.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • A passion for strengthening civil society organisations in Africa.
  • Demonstrated experience in grant writing, donor engagement, and partnership development will also be an added value.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
  • Proven expertise in fundraising and resource mobilisation for nonprofit organisations.
