Volunteer Opportunity: Policy, Advocacy and Communication (four positions)

Location: Remote
Duration: The commitment is flexible for at least three months and may be extended based on need and funding. The volunteers are expected to dedicate approximately four to eight hours each week.  

About the African Centre for Policy and Advocacy (ACPA)

Founded in 2015, the African Centre for Policy and Advocacy (ACPA), formerly known as the African Centre for Advocacy, is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation that promotes good governance, public health, education, and environmental sustainability throughout Africa. Based in Yaoundé, Cameroon, ACPA operates regionally, employing community-driven interventions, evidence-informed policy advocacy, and strategic communication to address key challenges related to health, education, governance, and climate change.

The Opportunity

 We are seeking passionate volunteers to support policy, advocacy, and communication efforts across ACPA’s key focus areas, including education, public health, governance, and environmental sustainability. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to policy research, stakeholder engagement, and strategic communication, driving policy change and strengthening community-led initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

You will support our efforts to drive policy change and strengthen community-led initiatives across Africa. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Research & Policy Analysis – Conduct in-depth research, analyze policies and global trends, and compile best practices to support evidence-based advocacy.
  • Policy Development & Advocacy – Draft policy briefs, reports, and advocacy materials, track legislation, and contribute to policy campaigns and strategies.
  • Citizen Participation & Governance – Support initiatives promoting transparency, accountability, and civic engagement through public forums and capacity-building programs.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Event Coordination – Assist in organizing workshops, conferences, and advocacy campaigns while facilitating partnerships with key stakeholders.
  • General Support & Learning – Provide administrative and logistical support, participate in strategy meetings, and engage in mentorship and training opportunities.

Who We Are Looking For

Interested volunteers should possess at least two of the following qualities and skills:

  • A background in public policy, international development, governance, communication, public health, or environmental studies.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical abilities.
  • A passion for advocacy, social justice, and sustainable development.
  • Experience in digital communication, content creation, or media engagement is advantageous.
  • The capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
